Music On Hold and Messages for VTech

If you have a small business and would like to give callers the impression of professionalism, this setup might be perfect for your office. The VTech 4-Line Small Business System Main Console (CM18445-Silver or AM18447-Black) works with the Easy On Hold® 2-Channel Business Audio System, allowing streaming music and messages on hold that sound just like a major call center.

This VTech phone has a place to plug in our message on hold player device, so callers will hear your messages while they wait on hold.

  • Works with the CM18445 (silver) and AM18447 (black) main consoles
  • Plug the 2-Channel Business Audio System into the music on hold jack
  • Streaming music and messages on hold, not a short built-in loop
  • Compatible with CM18245 cordless desk phones and CM18045 handsets on the same system

Connect CH1 Line Out on the 2-Channel Business Audio System to the MUSIC ON HOLD jack on the VTech console. Hover to enlarge on desktop, or click or tap the diagram.

How to Set Up Custom Music On Hold on VTech Phones

The VTech CM18445/AM18447 Main Console has an input jack for Music On Hold (MOH). To play the music and messages streaming on your Easy On Hold® 2-Channel Business Audio System, connect the audio cable from the audio device to the phone MOH jack. Then program the phone to use that external audio device as the source callers hear while holding.

Note: You cannot make any changes to the M.O.H. source while a call is currently on hold. The screen displays M.O.H. currently in use. Please try again later.

01

Connect the audio player to the MOH jack

Plug the audio cable from the Easy On Hold® 2-Channel Business Audio System into the MUSIC ON HOLD jack on the main console. If you are using the cable that came with the VTech phone, adapt the straight 3.5 mm end to RCA and plug into CH1 Line Out. Easy On Hold® supplies an RCA-to-RCA audio cable with an RCA-to-3.5 mm adapter plug.

02

Open Music on hold on an idle console

When the console is idle, press MENU/SELECT. Press the arrow keys to scroll to Music on hold, then press MENU/SELECT or SKIP.

03

Select Aux in device as the M.O.H. source

Scroll to M.O.H. source, then press MENU/SELECT or SKIP. The default music or tone plays while you highlight a source. Press MENU/SELECT or SKIP to select the highlighted source and return to the previous menu. Choose Aux in device so callers hear the Easy On Hold® stream.

If you select Aux in device but no audio device is connected to the MUSIC ON HOLD jack, the screen displays No device is connected to the M.O.H. jack at console. Connect the audio device, then choose Aux in device again.

04

Test the volume

Only the source device can affect volume changes callers hear while holding. Place a call to the VTech phone in use and listen while holding. Turn the volume knob on the audio device to set an acceptable volume level, at or below the speaking volume during a call.

Music On Hold instructions for the 18445/18447 phone also appear on page 30 of the VTech phone user manual.

Once Aux in device is selected and the 2-Channel Business Audio System is connected, callers hear the live Easy On Hold® stream while they wait. Content is managed from the Easy On Hold® portal; you do not load audio files into the VTech phone.

VTech CM18445/AM18447 Important Information

The model CM18445/AM18447 Main Console is the only phone from VTech with the music on hold input and capabilities. Phone lines plug into this phone in addition to the music on hold audio device.

The CM18445/AM18447 will work with other phones in the same family: the CM18245 Cordless Extension Desk Phone and the CM18045 Cordless Extension Handset. Extensions require the CM18445/AM18447 Main Console in order to operate.

These phones can be purchased from the VTech website. Tip: Call the VTech support line at (800) 595-9511 and listen to the automated answering announcements. You will receive a discount code to use when checking out at vtechphones.com.

What’s different about 2-to-4-line phones?

If you purchased your phones in an office supply store or appliance store, they likely are not able to use music on hold. There is no place for the audio to plug in to the phone and there’s no “brain” in the phone to tell it when to play music on hold. These phones use a plain phone line and can handle either 1, 2, or 4 lines, including typical Panasonic, RCA, and AT&T sets.

Usually not. Phones purchased in an office supply or appliance store often have no jack for music on hold and no way to tell the phone when to play it. Those sets use a plain phone line and can handle 1, 2, or 4 lines. The VTech CM18445/AM18447 Main Console is the model with the music on hold input.
